Baseball Batting Tips
There are a number of baseball batting tips that I could share with you, but let’s first focus on tips in the area of how to prepare to hit. Preparing to hit consists of many choices you need to make in order to feel as comfortable at the plate as possible.
Choosing Your Bat
Don’t use a humongous bat just because the older players use it or because Babe Ruth used a massive bat. Bat speed is very important so you want a bat that isn’t too long and heavy nor too short and light weight. You want a bat in between. You may need to try several bats before you find the one right for you. I’m sure you can borrow your team mates’ bats and practice with them or even try some out at the store.
Your Grip on the Bat
Make sure you have a firm grip on the bat. You may need to acquire some quality batting gloves to help you with the grip. If you’re not a batting glove person, I suggest getting some pine tar or rosin so that you have that extra secure feeling when holding the bat. Your knuckles on your hands should line up between one another with your bottom hand pinky just touching or actually around the knob of the bat if that’s your preference.
Mental Focus
Whether you’re in the dugout or at the on-deck circle, make sure you are mentally prepared before you get in the batter’s box. Study the pitcher and what he throws. Also study where he throws. Study your teammates and how they handle the pitches that are thrown to them. We do this so we are better prepared to know what’s coming. We don’t want any surprises when we get up there or it may possibly be what I call a wasted at-bat.
The Confident Hitter
Once you step into the batter’s box, you need to have a quiet confidence. Know in your mind that you are prepared for any hitting situation and be confident that you’ll get the job done. Whether getting a hit, moving a runner over or laying down a bunt, do your very best to be positive. Don’t let anything distract you. You may have family and friends in the stands. Don’t worry about them. The umpire may blow a few calls. Don’t let him distract you. It’s you against the pitcher and you don’t want to give him any advantages.
