Baseball Hitting Mechanics 101
It is important to learn the proper baseball hitting mechanics as early as possible. I’m not referring to complicated advanced hitting techniques, but simply the basics. Don’t be fooled into thinking you need to learn complicated methods of hitting. Here is all you need to know in hitting mechanics 101.
- How to hold the bat
- How to stand in the batter’s box
- Where to look and how to position your head
- How to position the rest of your body
- How to swing the bat
- When to swing the bat
- What to do after you hit the ball
Kids are smart and are hungry for knowledge. I remember buying baseball hitting books as a youth and I couldn’t wait to read them. As a parent, take it one step at a time and don’t rush anything. But get ready because there are some kids who move fast and will ask you many questions.
Be prepared to answer those questions and help them out. You might want to start studying now! Maybe you can go over one hitting tip each week. Be sure they are comfortable before moving on to the next tip.
Items that you’ll need are a bat, ball, helmet, tee and a field to practice on. I would also keep a notebook handy so you can document the progress of the players you’re assisting, whether it’s your son or a team of ballplayers.
