Baseball Hitting Tips – How to Act After Making An Out
I read an article a few months ago which featured a story about sports and sportsmanship. They have since taken down the article but it presented a few great baseball hitting tips about how to act after making an out.
"My players are not allowed to talk to the umpires. If there’s a strikeout, they turn around and hustle right back to the dugout."
What we teach at baseball hitting tips online is that it doesn’t matter what league you’re in or how old you are. As tempting as it can be to get frustrated and throw your helmet, hit your bat on the ground, give nasty looks to the umpire or yell something, the best thing to do after making an out is to jog or run back to the dugout.
I would say that no matter what, you shouldn’t do or say anything negative towards the umpires. Yes, some of them blow calls and are just out there for a small paycheck, but the majority of umps do care and are working hard. I’ve heard it said by umps that they care about the game of baseball just as much as the players and coaches.
It’s not just the right thing to do as far as sportsmanship. You’ve got to stay in the game mentally. You will be needed in the field to make a great play and you will be needed the next time up to bat to drive in a run. If there is going to be any arguing of calls or questions about balls and strikes, you should leave that up to the coaching staff. They have your back!
If you really must let off some steam then dive for the ball and make a great play. Get a double in the gap the next time up to bat. The great thing about baseball is that you usually get a second or third chance. That is awesome! Stay in the game and stay focused.
I see it over and over again when a player strikes out or makes an error in one inning only to come back and make a great play or big hit to win or save the game for their team. Do your very best to keep these baseball hitting tips in mind. The quicker you can get over a bad call at the plate, the sooner you’ll get the game winning hit.
