Baseball Tips Hitting

baseball tips hittingWhen teaching a Little League player some baseball tips on hitting, be patient with the process. Hitting may be brand new to them and you shouldn’t expect them to catch on as quickly as you may think they need to.  Try to make the process fun and done in a timely fashion.  You definitely don’t want practice to last three hours or more.  Be prepared and keep their attention by having them participate in fun hitting drills.

Go back to the basics. Even if your Little Leaguer has a little experience, it doesn’t hurt to go back to the beginning. I’m talking about showing them how to properly stand in the batter’s box, how to hold their bat, where to look and how to swing properly.   As we say often, even Major League Baseball players practice the basics every day.

Practice hitting off a tee. The concept here is to train your eyes to watch the ball when you swing as well as just practicing over and over the proper hitting mechanics. You can do this anywhere really. You can even do it at home if you have something to hit the ball against like a protective net.  There is no set amount of times you should practice hitting off a tee.  If you have 30 spare minutes then do it.  If you have 10 spare minutes, do it.  The more time you spend on your hitting the better.

Remember to have fun. Baseball is the greatest game in the world and it’s really fun to play. It’s especially fun to hit, so make sure your young one is having fun. If they happen to get bored after hitting awhile then switch to another activity or call it a day.  Like we said earlier, the more planned you are the better.  If you are well prepared then you can get down to business quickly without having to think too much.
