Batting Coaches Are Great If You Have One
There is no doubt that if you are lucky enough to be under the instruction of one of the many batting coaches out there you will benefit. Having that one on one help is something that will accelerate your learning.
Guess what? Most players don’t have a dedicated batting coach on their team. What are the alternatives to having one?
- Parent – Great thing about parents is that they personally care for you and your success. They will do anything to help you out and that is great.
- Head coach – This person has an interest in helping you and the team. His time may be limited but if you show interest and effort, he’ll most likely do the same.
- Video tape – As you’ve heard many times, tape doesn’t lie. It is a great tool to see exactly what you are doing. Find out what works and what doesn’t instantly. You can also review tapes of pitchers in your league to see how they pitch.
- Teammates – This is a give and take situation. You must help them out if you expect them to help you. It’s also great to bounce ideas off of each other.
- Baseball hitting books and videos – I don’t know many successful players who didn’t invest time and money into educational materials to help them along the way.
Using all of the examples above is very possible no matter what age group you’re in. A little bit of effort will go a long way. I would actually call each of those one of your many batting coaches.
Which one of these do you use? Which one of these do you find most effective? Find the answers to those questions and document it. Stick with what works and develop your own system.
