How to Hit Farther Baseball

Most ball players want to know how to hit farther baseball.  I felt the same way as I was growing up playing.  Nobody wants to hit dribblers to the infield or little pop-ups.  We all want to be able to drive the ball hard and far.

We should first look at the mindset of wanting to hit the baseball farther.  Why do you want to hit the baseball farther?  Truth be told, the number one reason players desire to hit the baseball farther is because they want to hit home runs.  Why do they want to hit home runs?  There are many reasons, but they assume that hitting home runs will bring them notoriety, girlfriends and maybe a scholarship.

I personally believe those are the wrong reasons for wanting to hit the ball farther.  Home runs will come in time, trust me.  Each home run I hit was never planned.  I simply executed the basic fundamentals of hitting and everything lined up correctly for me to hit those home runs.

The reason you should want to hit the ball farther is because you want to hit the ball as far away as possible from the fielders so that you can get an extra base hit and drive in runs.  You want to be able to drive the ball deep into the gaps so that you can get that double and drive in your teammate from first or second base.  Those are the kind of hits that give your team momentum, keep a rally going or even win the ballgame for your team.  Would a homerun do just that?  Of course, but your mindset going up to bat should be to hit the same as you always do.

Keep practicing the basic hitting fundamentals such as confidence and being ready each time you step up to bat.  Be comfortable and balanced in the batter’s box and know what your mission is each at bat.  Focus on hitting the ball with solid contact and hit the ball where it’s pitched.  You won’t hit many deep balls into the gap if you try to pull a pitch way on the outside corner.  You will most likely swing and miss, pop up or softly ground out.

Also make sure you are participating in some sort of conditioning program in the off-season as well as a light program during the season.  The guys with endurance and some strength are better able to consistently hit the ball farther in the gaps the whole season long.  I’m not referring to some grueling workout programs to bulk up.  I’m talking about running, calisthenics and light weight lifting.  Again, that alone doesn’t allow you to hit farther, but it all helps.
