Prep Player Shows How To Hit a Baseball

I read an article earlier in the season about a prep baseball player who was having a spectacular season at the plate.  He was hitting a lot of home runs and driving in a lot of runs so surely we can learn a few tips from this story about how to hit a baseball.

The kid’s name is Ethan Bennett and he plays for the Farragut, a school in Knoxville, TN.  Bennett hit a state record 27 home runs and drove in 73 RBIs.  He recorded a national record by hitting a home run in 10 consecutive games.  That is amazing!  He has signed on with the University of Tennessee to play college ball next season.  Farragut has now won back-to-back-to-back state championships.

Keep in mind that high school seasons are fairly short so you have to be in a good hitting zone all season long to put up numbers like those.  I don’t think they even play 50 games in a typical season.  I believe the last Tennessee high school prep to hit this good was Todd Helton who now has a tremendous Major League Baseball career with the Colorado Rockies.

Bennett has most likely practiced and worked really hard to become a successful hitter and you can too with practice and hard work.

I want to take this opportunity to say that even though home runs are fantastic and exciting, there’s more to hitting than home runs. For your team to be successful, you need a team of hitters with different unique aspects. For instance, great teams have a power hitter, a player who hits for average, a player who moves runners over, bunts the ball and a speed guy too. Most successful teams have this mix of players.

What type of hitter are you? What are you good at? What can you improve in? Are you just beginning to learn how to hit a baseball? Maybe you’re looking to improve and if so then remember that talent can only take you so far. You need to work hard and practice your hitting.
