Youth Baseball Hitting Instruction
Baseball is nearly a year round sport. There’s spring ball, summer ball, fall ball and winter conditioning. This is why so many players and coaches are always wondering how they can learn more about youth baseball hitting instruction.
We had a recent blog post titled, "How To Teach Kids To Hit a Baseball" where we went over the basics of what to teach youth concerning their hitting. Let’s go a little deeper for some tips that may give your kids the edge for the upcoming season.
Confidence: We’ve all experienced or have seen youth lose confidence after the first pitch. Just watch any Little League game. His first pitch will be a strike and he will immediately get upset, almost to tears, and his confidence will waiver the rest of his at-bat.
The hitting instruction I teach is to remain confident no matter what. Don’t worry about that first strike. You get three! Do you know how many game winning hits are made with two strikes already on the player? A lot. It’s hard not to get upset as a kid because you want to please your parents and those who love you. But if we can teach kids to remain confident, they will more likely get a hit and it will also help their confidence later in life.
Having fun: The most important part of baseball that I learned growing up is to have fun. The day baseball becomes a chore is the day your hitting will fall apart. This is especially true for youth. Teach your youth baseball players to have fun while hitting. In practice make it a game or a contest. See how many balls they can hit to a certain part of the field or split the team into two groups and have them compete to see which group hits the most line drives into the outfield.
Never give up: Youth baseball hitting instruction should include talks about never giving up. Always work hard at your hitting and remember that it may be your last at-bat of the game where you get the hit needed to win. Baseball is a great game because you have dozens upon dozens of opportunities to do something great.
My years of experience playing and teaching baseball hitting will help you with the challenge of learning how to hit a baseball correctly. Articles such as the one you just read will inform and motivate you to a better understanding of proper baseball hitting whether you are a coach, parent or ballplayer. Check back here for upcoming
